Clonmany Shamrocks
The Clonmany Shamrocks

Clonmany Shamrocks are affiliated to the Inishowen Football League, County Donegal, Ireland.  In the 1920's there was a thriving cup competition held yearly in Pollan Green. At the time there was no organised league just summer cups and so-called friendlies. The soldiers in Leenan Fort undoubtable helped to raise standards. Teams such as the 'Lily Whites', the 'Isle Shamrocks' and the 'Liberators' had their day as had 'Urris Celtic' and 'Rashenny Rovers' in later years.

We were formed in 1951 by Jim Clafferty, assisted by Hughie Gill, but we didn't have a constitution until 1975 with our Chairman at that time Neil O'Donnell. We were founder members of the Inishowen League with the other six teams being;   Globetrotters,Buncrana Celtic,Carn Rangers, Moville Celtic,Carrowmena Spurs and Glentoran. Globetrotters were the inaugral Champions and Buncrana Celtic were Runners-up. 1960 was the year.Emigration in the early days hit us hard, one week we'd have a fair good team and the following week half of the lads would be gone,it must have been a nightmare for managers. Times have changed and we've made big progress both on and off the pitch. Shamrock Park, known locally as the Pond field but was more of a pond than a field, is now a great example of what can be achieved by hard work and the dedication of many committee's through the years.

This is our home thanks to the invaluable contributions made by all the volunteers and club members past and present. The burden and workload on this pitch is massive and our priority is to get a second pitch which is proving far from easy. An all-weather facility would also be of immense benefit but again the hold-up is the site. The Athletic's side of the club needs to improve. Our running track is not competition standard [4 lanes] which is a big hindrance.
